Two new shows were launced at the Battersea Arts Centre this week as part of their Cash, Capitalism and Corporations season. I spoke to Conrad Murray about his autobiographical solo hip-hop show DenMarked (22nd Feb – 11 Mar) including the upbringing that informs his work, diversity in the arts and his confidence that anyone can beatbox. Billie Hyde, a performer in Fire in the Machine (22 Feb – 4 Mar) by Sounds Like Chaos, spoke about the show by young people from South East London which tackles the outdated values of the education system, set within a 1980s karaoke. Billie explained the organic way the script was put together, the importance of young people performing – and that if the performers are having fun, the audience will be having fun too.
